What comes to mind when you think of Fall? Maybe it's football, apple pies, hot cocoa, pumpkin spice, Halloween, cozy sweaters, or the obvious FALL COLORS! Let's be honest, there are many more things that I didn't mention that make fall special. Here are some of my favorite fall activities you might put on your Fall Bucket List.
VISIT A PUMPKIN PATCH
Although it is outside of Sheboygan I still love going to Spieker’s Pumpkin Farm. I'm willing to make the drive because they offer many fall activites: wagon rides to pick your own pumpkin.
There is also a straw maze, cornfield maze and petting barn (wagon rides, cornfield maze and concessions open weekends only).
CURVE A PUMPKIN
Whether I buy my pumpkin from a traditional pumpkin patch or the local grocery store, I make it a Fall priority to curve a pumpkin. It's one of my favorite things to do before Halloween. My mom always picked up pumpkins for my brothers and I when we were little and we would have a family pumpkin carving contest. I still get a phone call from my mom asking for photos.
FALL COLORS AT THE TOWERS
The Sheboygan area is fortunate enough to have two observation towers where you can see for miles (Parnell Tower and the Sheboygan Marsh Tower! Every Fall, towards the end of October, I will take an afternoon drive. The views during the summer are breathtaking. Can you image how spectacular it is at the change of the season, when all the fall colors are at their peak!
TAKE A CRISP AUTUMN WALK
If your'e like me, driving through the fall colors is beautiful but it's just not enough to grasp the full Fall experience. Believe me it's not a satisfying as hitting the hiking trails, feeling the crisp Autumn breeze, and hearing the crunch of leaves as you walk.
WATCH THE SURFERS (FALL IS THE BEST TIME TO DO IT)
Sheboygan has been a surf destination for over 50 years and is known by many as the Malibu of the Midwest. If the weather is just right you'll see cars lined up and down Broughton Drive, by the North Side Jettys. I finally caught some waves thanks to EOS Surf! My arms felt like noodles afterwards but it sure beat sitting on the beach watching them have all the fun.
PICK SOME APPLES
I can already smell the apple pies and taste the homemade apple sauce and hot cider. I love coming home after apple picking because the house always smells delicious. The warm, sweet smell of cinnamon and sugar drift through the air, bringing me back to my childhood. I would spend the afternoon in the kitchen with my mom. One would think I was helping her but really I'd be eating all the sugar/cinnamon covered apple slices.
THIS LITTLE PIGGY WENT TO THE *FARMERS* MARKET
I love attending The Farmer’s Market Wednesday and Saturday at Fountain Park from 8am-2pm. It is almost impossible for me to walk away without buying something because, well, “farmer fresh is best.” But, on the days I'm able to resist, it's nice getting out of the house, admiring the cut flowers, and maybe swiping a sample or two (if offered).
FALL CAMPING
I like to be outdoors as much as possible, so what better way to experience Fall then to go camping! Sheboygan offers a few areas to go camping such as Kohler-Andrae State Park and Broughton Sheboygan Marsh Park. Experience the beautiful landscape, massive waterways, variety of wildlife and recreational opportunities.
