Brunch is becoming a thing in Sheboygan. Some people love it, some people hate it (gasp!), and many plan their days and weekends around it. There are quite a few restaurants that offer brunch in Sheboygan and I think you will be overjoyed with your options. I think you’ll say, “Thanks a Brunch!”
Field to Fork
As promised, I came back for Brunch. Luckily for me they serve breakfast foods from 7am-3pm Monday through Saturday! If you had a chance to read my blog about “Some of the Best Food in Town,” you’ll know Field to Fork serves fresh produce and makes homemade foods. In addition, their grocery section is filled with produce from local artisan producers.
One of my favorite homemade goods is their bread. It did not surprise me when I ordered their French Toast. I have a serious bread addiction. I will admit, it does not look like tradition French toast people are used to but, boy do I recommend it. It is caramelized crème brulee style French toast made with Stefano’s house-made Italian bread and topped with local syrup. You’ll see me going back to try dishes that include fresh eggs, vegetables, meats, and so much more.
Bill’s Corner Cafe
This cute, rustic corner restaurant is outside the hustle and bustle of town. Although it is a smaller building it is offering big flavors. This ma and pa restaurant prepare their food from scratch and tastes like Grandma’s cooking. I ordered The Skillet “Mess:” Scramble eggs, ham, cheese, on top of hash browns.
You get a great portion of food for a very reasonable price. As I sat at the counter, it was evident that this is a hot spot among the locals. Every time someone new walked in, the waitresses knew their name and usual order.
This family-owned apple farm is a quaint, country-style cafe that is serving home-style breakfast & brunch. It has become one of my personal favorites! When my family visits me it is the one place they want to eat. Although it is a little off the beaten path, I say it is well worth the trip. Their hours are Monday through Saturday 6 am to 1 pm and Sunday is 6 am to Noon. I highly suggest going during the week or on Saturday. Sunday’s can get CRAAAAZY busy and you find yourself waiting awhile.
As soon as you pull up, you’ll see the farmer’s apple trees, the barn, and a few of their livestock off to the right. Often, you’ll have a short wait before being seated. I usually take that time to look around their little market that offers fresh baked pies, honey, jam, pure Maple syrup, and country crafts. Afterwards I’ll head out by the animals. You’ll see the peacocks wandering the grounds, be able to feed goats, and look at the rabbits.
Whispering Orchards meals are made from scratch with fresh and wholesome ingredients. Eggs are gathered fresh daily and served with homemade toast. When you look over their appetizing menu, you’ll see a variety of hearty cereals, omelets with cheeses, meats, mushrooms, and veggies, different types of pancakes and French toast. My favorite is The Planter. It is raspberry bread French toast, with one egg, a choice of meat, and toast. I will be honest, no matter what you order you will more than likely love it, that’s how wonderful it is.
Sly’s Midtown Saloon
Located on 8th street, this saloon is serving up more than drinks! Sly’s provides high quality food at a great price. This friendly bar and grill ensures an enjoyable experience for everybody. The bar offers clean comfortable bar stools, great views of the TVs, and a few traditional games. If you aren’t there for their huge selection of over 300 different types of beers and liqueurs head there for their breakfast selections. Although their breakfast menu is smaller you better come with a huge appetite because you’ll get a lot for your money. I created an omelet with hash-browns and toast. I was so overwhelmed, yet excited, with how much I received. I had enough food left over for lunch.
Seeboth is serving up more than just your average deli foods.
I had a chance to sit down with owners Gwen and Jim and learn a little more about their business. For starters their food is amazing. They spend quality time perfecting their homemade dishes, many of which were inspired from foods Gwen and Jim fell in love with on their travels. Chef Jim’s food will not disappoint. I entered a “food coma” after he prepared fluffy omelets, and delicious French toast along with their famous tatchos (homemade cheese drizzled on top of your choice of eggs that lay on top of tater tots).
And not only does Chef Jim come in early every morning to smoke their own meats, like pastrami, but they also deliver and cater all over the area. Whether you decide to go for breakfast or lunch, make sure you plan your time wisely. So many people love their food and often you’ll see a line out the door. If you don’t have time to wait, order ahead or grab some of their deli food like potpies, soups, pasta salad, and lasagna.
Bomallies is kind of tucked away in a little alley behind a salon on Calumet Dr. Their AMAZING flavorful food is served in smaller shareable portions sizes. This gives you the chance to try a little bit of everything. I’ve been there twice now. Once for dinner and then brunch. During my brunch visit I ordered their Monte Cristo-ham, gruyere cheese, over-easy egg, served in between two slices of French toast, dusted with powdered sugar. I generally like my French toast and eggs separate but in this case I couldn’t get enough. I wanted to keep eating even when I was completely stuffed.
Their exceptional, inviting, and friendly staff makes you want to return again and again! I definitely recommend visiting the restaurant or the food truck on Mondays at Vollrath Park in the Summer.
4 of a Kind
Located on Indiana Avenue, this bar and grill is one to keep an eye on. They serve brunch from 10am-1pm EVERY SUNDAY! The building has plenty of seating and a very friendly staff. I found myself heading to the back since there was a huge projector streaming the ESPN Pregame Show for Sunday football. I found it to be the perfect spot to enjoy my Sunday Brunch. And although the menu is limited, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with the options you do receive.
Besides the “All You Can Eat Pancakes” for just $6 you can get a satisfying brunch from a reasonable price. I contemplated dishes such as their Chicken & Waffles or their Loaded Hash Browns. But when I saw the description of their Stuffed French Toast I knew. Let me tell you about this, not so average, Stuffed French Toast. Your plate comes with Sheboygan Hard Roll Bread stuffed with their whipped, blackberry brandy cream cheese and topped with fresh blackberries! I drizzled a little bit of maple syrup on top and I was golden!
As I mentioned earlier, a place to keep in mind when looking to have Sunday Brunch.
If you are down on 8th Street I think you’ll enjoy stopping in Black Pig. “Black Pig takes you back to a simpler time. Comfortable and familiar, relaxed and easygoing. Serving up big flavors and pushing comfort food out of its comfort zone – comfort food with a twist.”
From the outside you don’t realize how big and how much space is available. Although there is a limited menu each item is unique. I ordered their Fresh Fruit Parfait and their Green Chili Chorizo Eggs Benedict: poached eggs, vine ripe tomato sliced avocado, chive hollandaise chorizo & roasted garlic potatoes. I loved their Parfait! Luckily, I was able to bring some home and enjoy it as a snack.
I will be going back to pig out but this time I think I’ll order their Lemon and Fresh Blueberry French Toast (Yum).
Located right off I-43, Breaking Bread is open every Sunday from 10am – 2pm. They offer a variety of Breakfast and Luncheon selections, including made-to-order omelets and waffles, chef carved ham and beef, with an assortment of fresh fruits, salads, and pastries. No matter what you are craving, Breaking Bread will have something that will help satisfy it. When you walk in and get seated, you can either help yourself to the buffet area or you can order a fresh Belgium Waffle like me and top it off with strawberries and whipped cream. Whether you are coming for a special occasion or just coming to grab a quick bite to eat, Breaking Bread will offer you a warm and inviting atmosphere.
Duke of Devon
Looking for a charming and cozy spot to dine? Head to Duke of Devon! This British pub & restaurant is located on Sheboygan’s Riverfront and their interesting and creative menu is designed around local ingredients with a flair of elegance.
I have dined here a few times and each time I have returned home with a satisfied tummy. Although this was my first time attending their brunch hours, Sunday’s 10am-3pm, I had no doubt I’d want to return another Sunday. I love my carbs, so I ordered their French Toast Toad-in-the-Hole. The meal includes two slices of house made brioche stuffed with a soft egg. It is also served with local maple syrup and house bacon. YUM! For my next trip I’ve already got my eye on their Bananas Foster Pancakes. Three buttermilk pancakes topped with bananas, rum maple syrup, candied walnuts, and whipped mascarpone.
At 725 Indiana Ave, Arabella’s Family Restaurant has reopened as Cafe Bella! For those of you that have enjoyed Cafe Bella in the past, you might notice a few stylish changes. But, don’t worry, luckily for us they are still serving up large portions of their delicious comfort food 7 days a week. With their multi-optional menu, I think it’d be almost impossible to not find something to love on the menu.
