Levitt Amp Sheboygan Music Series
July 12, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
6:00 p.m. Lex Allen | 7:00 p.m. Sweet Crude
New Orleans-based sextet Sweet Crude treats audiences to ‘Drum Pop Louisianais’—a vibrant, bilingual fusion of indie, pop, rock and traditional southern sounds, paying tribute to their hometown’s rich cultural heritage. The band’s uplifting pop anthems feature iridescent five-part vocal harmonies that seamlessly glide between English and Cajun French lyrics, as spoken by the bandmates’ grandparents and great-grandparents. With five vocalists and percussionists, Sweet Crude’s music has a strong acoustic framework, with synths, fiddles, trumpets and glockenspiels intermittently adding colorful surprises to their lively, eclectic sound. Sweet Crude also makes a point to stay away from the heartbreak often central to stories in Cajun music, instead drawing upon personal experiences and triumphs. Founded in 2013 by Alexis Marceaux, Jon Arcenaux and brothers Sam and Jack Craft, they grew to a sextet with the later addition of Stephen Macdonald and Skyler Stroup. The group draws influence from artists such as Talking Heads, Lost Bayou Ramblers, and Daft Punk.
After releasing their debut LP Creatures in 2017, Sweet Crude has toured across the nation alongside fellow rising star, Tank and the Bangas—including a high energy, memorable performance at Levitt Pavilion Los Angeles in 2017 and an upcoming solo show at the Levitt AMP Galva Music Series on July 15th. They’ve played at festivals such as Bonnaroo, the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and High Sierra. Their song “Parlez-Nous a Boire” was featured twice on the FX program American Horror Story and the group won the Big Easy Award for “Best Rock Band” in New Orleans in 2017.
