Even on the shortest of road trips, every parent awaits that single question that looms in the car like a dark cloud. “Are we there yet?” One of the best things about Sheboygan is that everything is basically next door.

Maywood Environmental Park

Bursting with hands-on, exciting nature experiences, Maywood boasts six different ecosystems blended together by friendly, winding paths throughout the 135-acre park. Pack a picnic–there’s endless scenic areas to relax and play. Visit the butterfly garden. Rent a park pack with plenty of gadgets to study miniature wildlife. Bring a fishing pole and try your luck in the calm, serene Pigeon River running through the grounds, or snap your camera for shots of Maywood’s beautiful bird families. Don’t forget a few art supplies to capture the incredible landscapes with your own creativity. In autumn, plan a fall colors walking tour with the whole family. In the winter, track the park’s owls. You can even snowshoe or cross country ski the trail loops to tailor your distance. Visit the Ecology Center and The Arboretum to learn more about the park. Admission is free, and there’s plenty of day camps, educational sessions and hands-on activities all year-long. Some activities may require a nominal fee. Guided group tours available. And the best part? Maywood is right in the City of Sheboygan, so you don’t even have to go too, far! The park is located at 3615 Mueller Rd.
