France’s premiere Celtic band Doolin’ imbues time-honored Irish music with a fresh perspective that will get you tapping your feet and clapping your hands. France-native celtic rockers Doolin’ imbues time-honored Irish music with a fresh perspective that will get you tapping your feet and clapping your hands. The sextet employs traditional celtic instruments—including guitar, bodhrán, fiddle, tin whistle, accordion and bass —to create a rich sonic landscape that plays out with an infectious energy. Doolin’ worked with legendary Irish guitarist John Doyle to achieve its unique sound—deeply rooted in traditional Celtic music but laced with traces of French chanson, American roots music, and even hip- hop from the streets of Paris. Although often mistaken for Irish musicians as a result of their technical acuity with traditional celtic instruments, Doolin’ formed in Toulouse, France in 2005, where they bonded over their shared love for Irish music. Their songs range from rich ballads to danceable jigs, and from traditional songs to original compositions, leaving concertgoers wanting more.
Doolin’ has supported major acts such as Altan, Kevin Burke, Martin Hayes and Mairtín O’Connor. “A finer gift hasn’t come from France since the Statue of Liberty was delivered,” says Jack Baker, Irish American News, in one of many glowing reviews from prominent outlets from around the world, including The Australian, The Living Tradition and Songlines.
